Legal Highs, Herbal Smokes

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Thursday, April 29, 2010, In : Herbal Smokes
News have just emerged that the Australian Government has increased taxes on commercial cigarettes by 25% , starting from tomorrow!
For smokers battling with the nicotine addiction this is a huge blow to their budget. Switching to Herbal Smokes can ease the transition to becoming a non - or occasional smoker as herbal smokes are not addictive.
As a non-smoker of over 10years I know how difficult it is to quit in the first place - the hands want to be occupied, the first morning cigarette with t...

A 'whole lotta Rosie' - and Free Postage Offer for DUST Team Members!

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, In : Etsy Treasures and Favourites
One of the highlights of coming back to AU was not being reunited with AC/DC but ... with our Rosie!
Rosie at her best
She endured a couple of weeks in a strange boarding kennel and was more than delighted to see us again! She is nearly 11 now and I feel that she is getting a bit too old now for such an unsettling change, without her 'pack' and lots of TLC.
I dearly would have loved to take her with me of course, but an overseas trip is totally out of the question.
Below are a couple of other ' Rosies' that wou...

When in Holland...

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Saturday, April 24, 2010, In : Travel
.... one must see Windmills?

After several freezing cold days, which made it difficult for us to really soak up the atmosphere, the sun came out after all and blessed us with a glorious day.A two hour bus ride - covering about the entire lengths of Amsterdam - we ended up in the Zannse Schans, somewhat the equivalent to Sovereign Hill in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia.
The amount of tourists that were there was staggering and just about flattened me - again it showed how utterly naive and spoilt...

We got here alright.... but will we get back?

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Saturday, April 17, 2010, In : Travel
So... we got into Amsterdam just hours before Schiphol got closed due to the volcanic ashes pollution and associated dangers. A lot of fellow conventioneers from the UK, Ireland, Sweden etc could not come, which was hugely disappointing for them and us...
But they may still be 'the lucky ones' because we may not be able to get back as scheduled if the volcano continues to spit out lava.
Only time will tell!

It is fantastic to be meeting up with so many different book-lovers from all around the w...

48hours from now...

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Monday, April 12, 2010, In : Travel
....we'll be firmly tucked into our seats on the plane, conquering the first leg of the trip to Amsterdam.
A brief stop in HK with just enough time to (maybe) have a shower and freshen up a bit, before it is time to board again.
Amsterdam at 6.35am is probably not at its most welcoming I'd imagine, but it'll have to do us.

The International Bookcrossing Convention starts on friday, so there is time to relax and acclimatize.
My suitcase is packet, naturally half of the weight accounts for books, b...

Autumn Warmers

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Friday, April 9, 2010, In : Etsy Treasures and Favourites
Whatever happened to Autumn? Those milder, sunny days and cooler nights?
We got hit with a cold snap and suddenly I am scrambling to find the winter gear - some of which I had already packed into my suitcase, ready to head off to Amsterdam next week. While I was enjoying a hot cup of BUZZinga

I took a virtual stroll down Etsy's shopping mall in search of something warming and cozy - and came across this gorgeous snuggler, handmade by SagoOnTuesdays!

Another item that caught my eye was this  P...

Natural Hair Care

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Monday, April 5, 2010, In : Herbs and Beauty
Often I get asked what I do for my Hair to get it looking the way it does now.
There is no secret to it, but what I have learnt is that the key lies with nourishment, not the kind of shampoo or conditioner I use. Hairdressers are trained to sell their stuff and will do anything to make you grab that extra bottle of serum, leave in conditioner or special care 'whatever'.
For a brief period I too got sucked into this spiel, but then the penny dropped.... it has to come from within.

My hair care re...

Lab Work

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Monday, April 5, 2010, In : Lab Work
As part of my studies as a Home Herbalist I am tinkering tincturing in 'the Lab'.
Today it was time to filter and fully extract the essence of Yarrow, which had been macerating in alcohol for the last 3 weeks.

Acidity, Weight Gain and how to re-establish the balance

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Monday, April 5, 2010, In : Wellness
Many a times I have woken up with that 'hangover feeling', aching joints, headache, ringing in my ears, tight and tense muscles - just to name a few. Just feeling blah...nothing specific that warranted a trip to the health care practitioner.
After doing some research I learnt that all these (and more) were signs of an acidic state in the body (the natural state of a healthy body is in the ph range of 7.2, which is alkaline).
Sure, I could pop a couple of painkillers and 'soldier on', but that w...

Legal Highs

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Saturday, April 3, 2010, In : Herbal Smokes
After being a 'non smoker' for over 10 years I was suddenly overcome with a craving for smoking - just the odd one here or there. I certainly didn't want to become addicted to nicotine again, or subject my body to all the nasties found in cigarettes, so I set out to find a non-addictive alternative of the herbal variety.
After trialling several different herbs I settled for the combination now found in the NOTWeeds Smokin' Hot Blend.
It has a dual meaning - it can be smoked of course - but also...

Nettle, Molasses and BIG HAIR

Posted by Christiana (Tia) on Saturday, April 3, 2010, In : Herbs and Beauty
My love affair with Nettle and Molasses started when I researched alternatives to expensive vitamin pills and supplements. Nettle just takes the cake, it is so rich in nutrients, particularly iron - so important for any woman of a menstruating age - vitamins and minerals; it is almost like a stand alone food in itself!
My personal preference is to drink it straight, or blended with another herb, depending on my state of wellness. At the same time I started to incorporate Molasses into my diet...
